Reporting
The Portuguese Government advises that suspected incidents of foreign bribery be reported to the Public Prosecutors Office. The Department of Central Investigation and Legal Action (DCIAP) is the unit within the Office of the Prosecutor General responsible for investigating foreign bribery. However, it is not clear whether it possible to report allegations directly to this unit or not. Verbal and written reports can be accepted in Portuguese (official language). Written reports can also be accepted in French. Supporting evidence can be translated. To call Portugal from another country, use the international access code +351. It is also possible to report information regarding suspected incidents of foreign bribery to the Portuguese embassy in the country where the bribery is alleged to have occurred. Portuguese public officials are required to report evidence of foreign bribery to the Portuguese enforcement authorities.

Do
  • Be aware that once information has been recorded by a public prosecutor, that he or she is then required to open an inquiry.
