Foreign Bribery is a Crime
Bribery of a foreign public official has been a criminal offence in the Czech Republic since 9 June 1999. Bribery that occurred prior to this date may also be a criminal offence if any part of the offence took place in the Czech Republic.
Implementing Legislation
Reporting
The Czech Republic Government advises suspected incidents of foreign bribery be reported to the Unit for Combating Corruption and Financial Crime, which is part of the Police of the Czech Republic. Anonymous reporting is permitted. Verbal and written reports can be accepted in Czech (official language) and in English and German. To call the Czech Republic from another country, use the international access code +420. It is also possible to report information regarding suspected incidents of foreign bribery to the Czech embassy in the country where the bribery is alleged to have occurred. Czech public officials are required to report evidence of foreign bribery to the Czech enforcement authorities.
Validation of Contact Point(s)
In November 2008, we rang the Unit for Combating Corruption and Financial Crime, which confirmed that it was able to receive reports of alleged foreign bribery involving Czech companies or nationals and that reports could be made by phone, fax, post or email. The telephone call was made in English. In December 2008, we rang the Unit for Combating Corruption and Financial Crime again to see if we could make a report and were advised to send information by email or by fax (see contacts below).Contacts
