Country: HUNGARY
Use the contacts on this page to report any suspicions or evidence of
a
Hungarian
registered company or national being involved in the
bribery of a foreign public official in an international business
transaction. The transaction may have taken place in any country in the
world.
Foreign Bribery is a Crime
Bribery of a foreign public official has been a criminal offence in Hungary since 1 March 1999. Bribery that occurred prior to this date may also be a criminal offence if any part of the offence took place in Hungary.
Implementing Legislation
Reporting
The Hungarian Government advises suspected incidents of foreign bribery to be reported to either the Central Investigation Office of the Public Prosecution Service (CIOPPS) or the Hungarian National Police (ORFK). Verbal and written reports can be accepted in Hungarian (official language). To call Hungary from another country, use the international access code +36. It is also possible to report information regarding suspected incidents of foreign bribery to the Hungarian embassy in the country where the bribery is alleged to have occurred.
Validation of Contact Point(s)
In December 2008, we rang both organisations, but were unable to confirm whether they are able to receive reports of alleged foreign bribery involving Hungarian companies or nationals, as the people who answered the phone did not speak English.Contacts
